Workshops

WorkshopsI currently have two different workshops I offer. Both workshops consist of 5 hourly sessions over a 5 week course. For the workshop to be as successful as possible up to 6 students can take part. These workshops are offered to schools within the North east of England. Student’s age range is from 11 to16 years old. Here is a brief outline of the main points for each of them. 1.Song writing and Performance workshopThe outcome of this workshop is for students to find and show their creative side and learn how to write a song from scratch. They will also learn performance techniques and basic skills on a musical instrument to enable them to perform the song themselves within a “band” situation. Each individual will receive tuition on their chosen instrument. (Instruments are to be provided by the school or students themselves)They will then perform and record the song with the recording equipment I will provide. They will end up with their own recording of their very first self written song. The exercise is designed to be fun and informative and to help develop musical and song writing skills. It can be a great confidence builder too. 2. Guitar workshop for beginners At the end of this five week workshop students will be able to play a modern pop song. The song will be rearranged and simplified on acoustic or electric guitar so the student can perform it to a competent level of accuracy. Essential theory will be taught to give students a basic understanding of the guitar. The objective is for the students to pick up a guitar and strum their first chord without too much explanation. This course is designed to be practical rather than theoretical. Each week students will be taught the very basics right through to being able to play their first song on the guitar. They will be taught: •how to hold and tune the guitar, explanation of functions and parts of a guitar •String names and how notes repeat themselves on the fret board.•Basic open chord shapes•Basic strumming patterns•Basic chord progressions using the open chords and strumming patterns just taught.Finally the chosen song will be taught and the students can come away from the course with a new skill, they can play a song on guitar and possibly be set on the path to guitar greatness. I know that the pleasure they will get out of playing their first song will be fantastic and I can almost guarantee they will want to keep on playing and improving!!!!!!
